We recently submitted water samples from Twin Islands Pond to the Washtenaw County Environmental Health Division to test for E. coli. This was our first test for the season, and we’re happy to report that the results were well within safe limits. The E. coli readings for the two samples taken from the north and south sides of the pond were 45 and 65 CFU/100mL, respectively.

For comparison, the average readings for North Pond typically hover around 12 CFU/100mL. While our readings are slightly higher, they are still far below the threshold of 235 CFU/100mL, which is considered safe for recreational water contact. This shows that our ongoing algae and weed treatment program is helping maintain a healthy environment in the pond.

We plan to continue monitoring the pond regularly, with periodic tests throughout the season to ensure it remains safe and clean.  We are considering expanding our testing to include additional parameters such as pH balance, Ammonia content, Nitrite levels, and Phosphate content. These additional tests will provide a more comprehensive view of the pond’s health and help us maintain its pristine condition. If you’re interested in helping with future water sampling, please let us know by emailing us at [email protected].

Again, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the homeowners who have supported the pond treatment program.
